Still busy, and car insurance

Again I've been too busy to have time for a long post. But a quickie about car insurance. In the UK car insurance is mandatory and costs upwards of a thousand pounds for young male drivers. I heard recently that the EU had ruled it was discrimination to give women cheaper car insurance, so I hope this will lower my insurance premium in future. At least you can get a swift car insurance quote off the comparison sites - whose adverts we all hate - and find the cheapest. Still, my car insurance this year cost a lot of money I'd rather have. End of rant.

  1. Yep, that sounds like how it is here in the states. It can sure get expensive fast.

  3. Car insurance is a necessary evil. Doesn't make it any easier to pay, though.

  4. Most states have compulsory car insurance. It's a pain, and ain't cheap. There is little pay off for when you need it, and the insurance companies know that. I tend to drive pretty carefully, and when I do have problems, I would rather call AAA.

  7. Yeah, apparently when you turn 25, they mail you your maturity and your rates go down... At least, that's my understanding! Not cheap but cheaper than totaling your car and being stuck with the bill!!

  12. It's mandatory where I live as well, so I feel you. But you know, when some idiot rear-ends you, it suddenly becomes worth it...

  13. mandatory here in the states. Young males are also charged more. It was brought up once in class. My teacher is some snobby ultra-feminist. she said it was ok to charge males more because there were facts that prove males are more dangerous. Very hypocritical of here.

  32. i live in the states but take advantage of a little known loophole that lets me post a bond with the secretary of transportation in my state, so i never have to pay for insurance again, the bond will cover any trouble i get into.

  33. I hate the insurance. Quotes are never right too. My first insurer said £700 a year. I had to pay £80 per month...serious maths fail there.
